The Conservation Volunteers

A major website rebrand, followed by improvements to increase volunteer, donor and sponsor involvement across the UK.

The Conservation Volunteers, or TCV, is a UK-wide charity that works to create healthier and happier communities for everyone – communities where their activities have a lasting impact on people’s health, prospects and outdoor places.

 

The Problem

Following a rebrand in 2012, we had six weeks to turn a set of designs from a branding agency into a fully-fledged site with a variety of content types. It was a very large site, with well over one thousand pages, so this was a big job.

Since then, we have redesigned the site in-house. The website is designed to raise awareness of the organization to both volunteers, corporate supporters and the general public.

We work constantly with The Conservation Volunteers to improve the website, leading to better and better results.

The Process

We carried out an initial audit of the existing website to determine which pages were performing well and which weren’t. There followed a short period (remember, we only had six weeks) of consultation with TCV staff to decide on the structure of the new website.

We also incorporated a number of scripts that pull data from TCV’s sophisticated in-house database system. This ensures that all staff can update certain dynamic parts of the website without needing direct access.

A little further down the line and we continue to make improvements to the website.

Other work includes a responsive theme, embedding further scripts to display data about volunteering activities. This has helped people who wish to volunteer find a suitable volunteering opportunity near them using a postcode search.

We also help TCV with much of their Google Ads and organic improvements – making them more visible and attracting more donors, sponsors and volunteers.

The Results

Over the last few years (2019-2022) we’ve helped The Conservation Volunteers increase organic traffic (that’s people searching on Google and other search tools) by 67%. We have also seen the ‘bounce rate’ improve by 33%.

This means that more people are seeing The Conservation Volunteers’ website and sticking around to read more of it.
